EDMOND — With 42 seconds left and the season on the line, Cruz Campbell found Wick Kohmescher in the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown as Tuttle captured the Class 4A state championship with a 23–20 win over Elgin Saturday night at Chad Richison Stadium.
The night opened with instant chaos in Tuttle’s favor as a bad snap sailed out of the back of the end zone for a safety and a 2–0 Tigers lead. Elgin answered with a quick strike when Cayden Belletto connected with Braxten Antuna for a touchdown, but the missed extra point kept it 6–2 before Shaun Rounsaville ripped off a long touchdown run to swing momentum back to Tuttle at 9–6 late in the first quarter.
Elgin responded early in the second as Ritson Meyer powered into the end zone to put the Owls back in front, 13–9. Tuttle countered through the air just before halftime, as Campbell hit Jalen Lane for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 16–13 lead heading into the break.
The third quarter was scoreless, and the tension only grew as Elgin took the lead in the fourth on Meyer’s 1-yard touchdown run to make it 20–16. Tuttle answered with one final drive, and Campbell delivered the biggest throw of the night — a 20-yard touchdown to Kohmescher with 42 seconds remaining — to lift the Tigers back in front for good.
