Washington vs Chisholm: Warriors Ride Takeaways, Explosive Plays in 46–6 Rout

WASHINGTON — Behind a bruising ground game, four interceptions, and a late first-half momentum swing, Washington rolled past Chisholm 46–6 Friday night at Reed Field to open the Class 2A-I playoffs.

Chisholm actually struck first. Early in the opening quarter, Slade Smith jumped a route for the Longhorns and set them up in plus territory. A few snaps later, Conner Quintero lofted a deep ball and Jake Long went up in traffic for a contested touchdown grab, giving Chisholm a 6–0 lead after the failed two-point try. Washington steadied itself in the second quarter. Javen Hall answered with a physical touchdown run to tie it 6–6, and Josiah Dickerson followed by muscling in from short range for a 12–6 advantage.

The game flipped for good in the final minutes of the half. Braedon Hutchinson and a Chisholm receiver went up together on a true 50–50 ball, both refusing to let go as they tumbled to the turf, but Hutchinson wrestled it away for a huge interception. On the very next series, Creed Barrett uncorked a 56-yard bomb to Kade Babcock down the sideline, setting up Dickerson’s long scoring run to the house—his second touchdown of the night—and a 19–6 halftime lead that sent the Warriors into the locker room with all the momentum.

From there, Washington’s offensive line and defense took over. In the third quarter, Dickerson capped another march with his third rushing score after Barrett hit Babcock again to set up goal-to-go, stretching the cushion to 26–6. Barrett then went back to the air, dropping a strike to Case Alexander downfield for a touchdown and a 32–6 margin. Defensively, the Warriors slammed the door as Hutchinson added a second interception and Dawson Thomas snagged another, giving the secondary three picks between them and four overall against Quintero.

In the fourth, Washington leaned on its depth and kept pounding away on the ground. Gavin Foster sliced through the Longhorn defense for a touchdown to make it 38–6, then later punched in his second score and tacked on the two-point conversion to land the final blow. By the end of the night, the Warriors had piled up 318 rushing yards and 527 total yards of offense while holding Chisholm to just 85 yards rushing and 251 overall.
