NEWCASTLE — In a Tri-City rivalry matchup and 4A-1 district makeup from last week’s rainout, Tuttle’s Avery Laird was unhittable. The sophomore right-hander tossed a complete-game no-hitter to lift the Lady Tigers to a 6–0 victory over Newcastle on Wednesday night.
Tuttle (ranked among the state’s top 4A programs) wasted no time, pushing across four runs in the opening inning. Audrey Watson’s sacrifice bunt plated the first run, Laird helped herself with an RBI double, Hailey Day singled home another, and Mara Mahan capped the frame by drawing a bases-loaded walk.
Newcastle starter Adie Loman battled through seven innings, but the Lady Tigers’ offense kept steady pressure, finishing with 11 hits and drawing five walks. Kynlee Swain led off strong, going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Day and Lilly Ferrell each turned in multi-hit nights. Mahan added two RBIs from the ninth spot in the order.
Laird’s dominance in the circle sealed the outcome. She struck out six and retired the final hitter on a groundout to secure the no-hitter.
