Washington Blasts Casady in District Sweep, Stays Unbeaten

WASHINGTON — Washington stacked two emphatic wins on Friday night, overwhelming Casady 11–0 and 16–6 in a home doubleheader to remain undefeated in district play. The Lady Warriors opened the evening with a 10-run first inning in Game 1 and later piled up 14 hits in Game 2 to finish the sweep in three-inning run rules.

Game 1 — Washington 11, Casady 0 (3 inn.)

Washington turned the opener into a track meet in the bottom of the first, sending 14 batters to the plate and cashing 10 runs. The surge began when Ava Salcedo ripped an inside-the-park home run to the gap to bring two across. From there, the lineup filed in with damage at nearly every spot: Kinzlee Pogue punched an RBI single, Raelee Adkins lasered a run-scoring double, Daphne Palumbo split the outfield for a two-RBI double, Jenni Johnson followed with a two-run double, and Bentli Brantley added an RBI single. One more crossed when Pogue later grounded into a double play with a runner breaking on contact.

The Lady Warriors tacked on an 11th in the second when Hadley Beard lined a run-scoring single.

In the circle, Ally Dennis was untouchable, throwing three no-hit, scoreless innings with 2 K and 1 BB. Casady starter Brooklyn Wells took the loss (0.2 IP, 7 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 4 BB), and Alice Sun finished for the Cyclones (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER).

Palumbo, hitting seventh, underscored Washington’s depth with a 2-for-2, 2 RBI line. Washington played clean behind Dennis with no errors; Adkins handled a team-high four defensive chances.

Pitching (G1)

Game 2 — Washington 16, Casady 6 (3 inn.)

Washington struck first again, plating four in the opening frame. Ava Salcedo shot an RBI single down the right-field line, Lexie Salcedo followed with an RBI double to the same side, then Anna Mitchell and Dorothy Shepard each produced RBI groundouts for a 4–0 cushion.

The separation came in a seven-run second built on four loud swings: Emersyn Massey doubled home one, Kelby Beller roped a two-RBI double, (Ava) Salcedo added an RBI single, and Payton Blackburn cleared them with a three-run double to make it 10–0.

Casady answered with a six-run push in the third, stringing together five hits and two bases-loaded walks: Alice Sun doubled in one, Deede Douglas forced in a run with a walk, Grace Robey singled home two, Brooklyn Wells added an RBI single, and Kaitlyn Shaver drew another walk to plate the sixth.

Washington slammed the door in the home half, posting five more to end it early — a barrage highlighted by RBI singles from Beller, Julie Hoehner, Adkins, and Palumbo as the lineup turned over and kept the pressure on.

Beller set the pace at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Washington totaled 14 hits; Massey matched Beller with three hits and swiped two bases (the team stole four overall). Blackburn also drove in three, and Ava Salcedo went 2-for-2.

For Casady, Mattingly Bard, Shaver, Robey, Wells, Sun, and Douglas each recorded a hit; Robey went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs. The Cyclones showed patience with six walks, led by Shaver and Abigail Jacobs with two apiece.

Pitching (G2)

  • Washington: Ellie Musgrove — 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K; Abby Byrd — 0.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 K
  • Casady: Alice Sun — 2.0 IP, 14 H, 16 R, 16 ER, 4 BB, 0 K

With the sweep secured, Washington closes the night still perfect in district play, combining explosive first- and second-inning spurts with airtight defense and front-line pitching to keep the league pace.
